As reported in The Economist recently, the Asia-Pacific region might be experiencing slower growth, but the demand to hire skilled employees means that managers in the region are still under as much pressure as ever.
Mark Robertshaw, Faststream’s Asia-Pacific Director commented: “The job losses have mainly been within the unskilled worker set. We’ve seen no sign of a turndown in employers looking to recruit talented individuals”.
Robertshaw continued: “In fact it’s probably become even more difficult to hire the best people. Where the Asia-Pacific region has historically experienced higher levels of employee turnover than the Western World, the economic uncertainty has made workers more inclined to stay put”.
With most of Asia’s domestic economies still forecasted to expand in 2009, demand for skilled workers will continue to rise and wages are likely to increase alongside this – there’s simply not enough talent to feed the growth. Robertshaw commented: “As a specialist recruitment business we will be working as hard as ever to ensure that our clients recruit the right people for their business”.
